School
Our mission is to motivate, educate and empower each student for success in today's world.
Vision Statement
Summit Ridge Academy (SRA) partners with families, students, local schools, and other community resources in providing the best educational opportunities for each student. Our primary focus is helping the student build a sense of belonging within the school and community, mastery of self and learning, personal independence, and generosity toward others. Summit Ridge Academy will provide opportunities for each student to acquire the skills necessary to become a successful citizen in a diverse society.
History
Summit Ridge Academy (SRA), formerly Lee’s Summit Alternative School, opened in the spring of 1997 with 9 students and 2 teachers. A safe schools grant written by Cliff Sloan and Bob White provided the start-up funding for our program. In the spring of 2004, a team representing the school community created the school’s name, including the word “Summit” representing the name of the city Lee’s Summit and “Ridge” due to the elevation of a nearby area. The team was also charged with naming the school mascot and identifying school colors, hence the burgundy and khaki Hawks were born. Summit Ridge Academy was initially opened with a capacity of 20 students. In 1998, Summit Ridge Academy increased the capacity of the school to approximately 40 students and continued to increase the number of students it serves. Summit Ridge Academy is located on the south side of the Lee’s Summit West Campus.
